About me
Gabriela “Gaby” Hernandez, LCSW is the Mental Health Inpatient Center Psychosocial Supervisor who joined CHOC Children’s in 2018 as one of the first therapists to open the Mental Health Inpatient Center. She oversees a team of 25 staff members including mental health therapists, psychologist, resource specialist, teacher, art therapists, music therapists and junior colleagues. Gabriela has 20 years of experience in mental health field and has worked in inpatient, outpatient and with institutionalized youth. She was recognized with the CHOC Presidential Honor Award in November 2020 after she developed a network with 28 school districts in Orange County to assist students with transition back to school from inpatient care. The network has now developed into the Return to School Program that offers support to patients who are seen for a mental health and/or medical crisis. Gabriela is also CHOC’s only LPS (Lanternman Pretris Short) Trainer that helps oversee California law that governs involuntary civil commitment, short-term psychiatric detention, and mental health conservatorships.
